This course helps commissioned security officers maintain essential knowledge and demonstrate the proficiency required for renewal. Instruction reinforces use-of-force decision-making, defensive tactics, firearms safety, and professional responsibilities.
Students must successfully complete the required instructional and practical components. DPS requires six hours of continuing education and submission of a firearms proficiency certificate for commissioned officer renewal. Firearms proficiency must be demonstrated within 90 days of the renewal application date.
